Ingredients

1 cup tomato sauce
2 tablespoons adobo sauce (from canned chipotles)
1–2 chipotle peppers in adobo, minced
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon cumin
½ teaspoon smoked paprika
Salt and black pepper to taste

Method

  1. Combine all ingredients in a saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Simmer gently for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Adjust heat level by adding more chipotles to taste.
  4. Cool and blend if a smoother texture is desired. Store in fridge up to a week.
